Does IKEA Sell Wall Beds in Ireland?
Short answer: not a dedicated fold-down wall bed system. IKEA's Irish range focuses on sofa beds, day beds and loft beds, different products solving a similar space problem in a different way.
What people are usually looking for
Most people searching for "IKEA wall beds" actually want a bed that folds vertically into a cabinet against the wall, freeing the floor for daytime use as an office, living room or gym, that's a purpose-built wall bed (also called a murphy bed). It's a different category to IKEA's flat-pack sofa beds and day beds, which stay on the floor whether open or closed.
Purpose-Built Wall Bed vs Flat-Pack Sofa Bed
Purpose-Built Wall Bed
- ✓ Gas-piston mechanism, opens/closes in one motion
- ✓ Fits any mattress size, up to king
- ✓ Custom-measured and professionally installed
- ✓ Bespoke colours and finishes
- ✓ 20-year mechanism guarantee, EN1129 certified
- ✓ Room is fully usable when the bed is closed
Flat-Pack Sofa Bed / Day Bed
- → Lower upfront cost
- → Self-assembly
- → Stays on the floor, open or closed
- → Mattress typically thinner, fixed size
- → Standard retail warranty
- → Doesn't free up full floor space
When a Purpose-Built Wall Bed Makes Sense
If the goal is a room that genuinely doubles as a home office, guest room or living room, not just extra seating that folds flat, a properly engineered wall bed with a long-life mechanism is the better fit. It's a bigger investment than flat-pack furniture, but it's built to be opened and closed daily for decades, professionally fitted to your exact wall and room.
