Wall Bed Mattress Guide

Good news: modern wall beds are designed to work with standard mattresses — no specialist purchase required.

Thickness: Up to 12 Inches

Our mechanisms are calibrated to support mattresses up to 30 cm (12 inches) thick — covering the vast majority of pocket spring, memory foam and hybrid mattresses on the market.

Mattress Types Compared

Memory Foam

Excellent

Flexible enough to fold without damage. Retains shape. No movement noise.

Hybrid

Excellent

Best comfort + compatibility. Springs in a foam enclosure fold without issue.

Open Coil Spring

Good

Works well. Some cheaper open-coil mattresses may develop a slight fold over time.

Latex

Good

Heavy — confirm weight with our team during consultation. Works well with gas pistons.

Pocket Spring

Excellent

Individual springs flex independently. Ideal for wall beds.

Innerspring (old)

Check first

Older rigid innerspring mattresses may be too stiff. Contact us to confirm.

What About the Mattress Retainer?

All our wall beds include a safety retainer system — a panel or straps that hold the mattress securely when the bed is folded up. You never need to worry about the mattress shifting or falling.
